There are two required forms that all employers need to fill out before Stockton University students can begin work as an Intern for HTMS 4970. These two forms are the Affiliation Agreement and the Learning Contract. In this section of the Internship Website, we will explain both forms, and also give you a pdf file that you can download. These pdf's are the actual forms. Just print them out, fill out the appropriate information, scan it, and send it back to us at bill.quain@stockton.edu/
The Affiliation Agreement
At first glance, the Affiliation Agreement might seem a bit like overkill. However, it is important to remember that Stockton University is a New Jersey State institution. Your company is about to become a full partner in helping Stockton University to carry out its educational mission. The purpose of the Affiliation Agreement is to make sure that all parties (Stockton, your company, the students and the faculty member) iprate in a transparent and fair relationship. As you will see when you read the Affiliation Agreement, we waqnt to establish open communication about insurance coverage (we provide some, as do you) and Stockton's Affirmative Action/Accessability guidelines. NONE of this stuff is complicated. We are standing by to help you when you fill out this form.
IMPORTANT: The Affiliation Agreement is good for 3 years. If your company already has a current Affiliation Agreement with Stockton University, you do not need to fill out another one at this time.
IMPORTANT: The Affiliation Agreement must be signed by the employer, and in the Stockton files, no later than the first week of class.

The Learning Contract
In the HTMS Program, all of our Internship Employers agree to give our students a REAL job. (In some other programs, there has been a problem with that. Stockton Interns, in some cases, didn't do REAL work. Instead, they went to the Dry Cleaners to pick up laundry, make copies, and do other menial jobs that did not relate to their education.) So, even though it would never happen with one of our employer/partners, All Internship employers now have to sign the Learning Contract@ On the othyer hand, we do think it is a great idea. Again, it is one more means to create a transparent and fair working arrangement.
In the Learning Agreement, the employer provides the student with a job description. We keep it on file throughout the Internship. We use it as part of the students' grades. With a transparent Learning Contract, everyone is comfortable with the job's requirements.
IMPORTANT QUESTION THAT EMPLOYERS ASK: "If I sign this Learning Contract, what happens when we need this student to "jump in" to help us serve our guests?" NO PROBLEM. We aren't trying to tie your hands. We know that the first responsibility for ALL employees in the Hospitality Industry is to serve the guests - doing whatever it takes to get the job done. It is reasonable to expect an employee to join her/his colleagues in creating a great guest experience. So, create a job description for the interns that is exactly like the job description you would create for any employee - and then let them help you achieve your objectives!
